Why Does My Face Go Red

There are a lot of reasons that your face could be going red (or that you have a red face):

1) Rosacea- this is a skin condition characterized by inflammed, red, oily, acne-prone areas. If you have acne (pimples) and your face is red, it's probably best to set up a dermatology appointment or try some acne treatment from the store.

2) Embarrassment- you might be embarrassed about something and because of the emotional reaction that your body is having to the embarrassment, your get a red face. This is also called "flushing". There is nothing wrong with flushing- it happens to a lot of people.

3) Sunburn- if you're sitting out in the sun for long periods of time, or even in a tanning bed, eventually your skin will start to burn. Some people who have light colored skin tend to burn more easily than darker skinned people, the result is a red face. This is because darker skinned people have more pigments in their skin that protect them from the sun. If you have lighter skin, make sure that you are not in the sun for more than 15 minutes, and don't go outside without sunblock.

4) Heatstroke- getting a red face from being out in the sun too long can cause heat stroke. It's not the same thing as getting sunburned, because you don't have to be burned on your face to have heat stroke. This occurs when your body gets too hot it causes you to get dehydrated and you get a red face.

5) Fever or Skin Infection- you can get a red face when your body is under attack by an infection as well. The fever (an infection anywhere in your body) will cause your body temperature to rise and when this happens, some people's faces turn red. You might also have a skin infection on your face that causes it to be red.
